Unilabs Middle East boosts Covid-19 testing in UAE with team of Spanish experts
Dubai, 2 June 2020: Unilabs Middle East, one of the leading diagnostic services providers in the UAE, has welcomed an expert team of seven molecular biologists from Spain, who will assist local frontline medical workers in expanding the UAE’s Covid-19 testing capacity.
The Spanish team joins an existing team of laboratory specialists who are working on improving the productivity of the laboratory ecosystem, optimizing per capita testing, improving efficiency in identification and diagnosis, supporting the management of quarantine procedures, and the assessing the efficacy of release processes for recovered Covid-19 patients.
“Our team is working around the clock to take samples and provide results within 24 hours – and given the huge demand, we are very happy to be able to call on the resources, expertise, and manpower that come with being part of a global lab group like Unilabs,” said Mohamed Daoud, Director General, Unilabs Middle East. “Working closely with the UAE’s health authorities, we are committed to providing high-quality tests on the widest possible scale, and we are pleased to see daily increases in recoveries.”
With expertise in molecular diagnostics and technologies, managing clinical research studies, biochemistry, genetics and project management, the team will help local teams optimize strategies required to support the country in its efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to medical expertise, the team is also experienced in laboratory automation and software integration, to help streamline solutions and minimize the risk of human error.
The Spanish team bring a wealth of experience across relevant medical and scientific domains. Dr. Milagros Gonzalez-Rivera has more than 20 years’ experience in clinical research and is a respected voice on diverse medical disciplines including biochemistry, oncology, hematology, and microbiology. Irene Chaves Coira is an experienced researcher on neural pathways and brain development; Carol Sanchez is a biochemist and a former team leader of a group of molecular biologists for real-time PCR, while Juan Francisco Gonzales has 17 years’ experience in laboratory IT, including integration and automation. Katherine Guardada, Cristina Cuesta, and Lara Rubio are experienced molecular biologists.
